Kargil

The
sheer natural beauty of Kargil is sure to bewitch you. It is the place located
in the middle point between Srinagar and Leh. Situated next to the roaring river
Suru, this is the second largest town in Ladakh and is the district headquarters
of the region.
The various sightseeing places in Kargil are Suru Valley the most fertile
section of Ladakh. A 90-km drive to Parkachik, stretching through the countryside
takes the tourist to the foot of the Nun and Kun peaks. Sankoo is the picturesque
bowl-shaped valley there is also a small bazaar over here selling appealing
items and roadside tea-stalls.
Pankharis the base for trekKing across the main Himalayan range to the hill
resorts of Pahalgam and Kishtwar. Parkachik & Tangole are the villages
famous among the mountaineers being the take- off points. Rangdum is a Buddhist
settlement with an 18th century Monastery. Mulbek is famous for its 9- mt
high rockcarvings in deep relief. There also a Monastery perched atop the
hillock.
The best climate to visit Kargil during the summer season of May and June.
