Jhansi,
the land of the valiant Queen Rani Lakshmi Bai is the Gateway to Bundelkhand.
It is known as the land of legendary warriors, historical Forts, religious centers,
grand Palaces and placid lakes. Jhansi has played a very colorful role in the
history of India by emerging as one of the cities where Indias revolt
of independence started of against the British.
The various places to visit in Jhansi are Jhansi Fort built by Raja Bir,
the hilltop Fort also has a Museum displaying artifacts from Bundela history.
Rani Mahal was Rani Lakshmi Bais Palace, now being converted into a
Museum housing a collection of archaeological remains dating between 9th and
12th centuries. Other places of interest are Laxmi Tal, Ganmgadhar Rao Ki
Chhatri and Sri Kali Temple.
Among the excursions are Talbehat Fort is having a striKing proportions and
is surrounded by a large swamp; Barua Sagaris the site where Maratha-Bundela
battle was fought; Paricha is a dam built on river Betwa; Deogarh has got
the ruins of the Vishnu Temple of the Gupta period; Mahoba and Chitrakoot
is a picturesque town situated on the banks of River Mandakini.
Jhansi has got an extreme type of climate .The best season to visit is during
October-March.
