Rajasthan,
the Land of the Kings is the most exotic and colorful state of India with sand
dunes, camels, huge moustaches, brightly colored clothes and lake Palaces. Add
up potpourri of exquisitely carved chhatris, stringed instruments, cheelra ka
saag, silver anklets, tie and dye, ghoomar dancers, eco-sensitive tribes and
hunters, victory towers, bati with ghee.
You wont have to pick up a place to visit as grand Palaces and mighty
Forts are dotted throughout the state. There is the placid and sacred town of
Pushkar with its spectacular Camel Fair.
Experience the varsity of birds and wildlife in Bharatpur Sanctuary, Keoladeo
Ghana National Park, Ranthambhore & Sariska. Camel safaris in the vast,
bewitching desert around Jaisalmer and the painted Havelis of Shekhawati.
The local Rajsthani people dressed in colorful traditional clothes observe all
the major Hindu and Muslim festivals. Some festivals are celebrated with a special
local fervor like Desert Festival in Jaisalmer and Nagaur Fair in February;
Pushkar Fair in November; Elephant Festival in Jaipur in March.
The 18-day Gangaur festival is the most popular festival for girls, especially
among married women. Urs in May in Ajmer; Teej or the swing festival in August;
Marwar music festival in October; Shilpgram Crafts Fair in December have got
a savor of their own.

Rajasthan
has various schools of miniature paintings made its contribution to Indian art;
there is a rich literary tradition, especially of bardic poetry. A popular source
of entertainment is the khyal, a dance drama composed in verse with festive,
historical, or romantic themes.
The typical folk dance of Rajasthan is the ghoomar, which is performed on festive
occasions only by women. The geer dance, the panihari and the kacchi ghori dances
are also popular quiet popular.
